Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) was formally established in January 2004 by 7 MFIs CEB, AMRET, HKL, Maxima, Seilanithih, CREDO, and PRASAC. On October 18 th, 2004, CMA formally registered at the Ministry of Interior as a non governmental organization. The purpose of CMA is to ensure the prosperity and sustainability of microfinance sector in Cambodia.

Over the past year, M-CRIL has emerged as the world leader in the rating of microfinance institutions (MFIs). By April 2007, M-CRIL had undertaken 422 ratings or assessments covering 246 microfinance institutions in 17 countries of Asia stretching from Russia to the Philippines in South-East Asia (map below). M-CRIL has now expanded its area of operations into Russia & the NIS. The list of countries includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, East Timor, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Samoa & Sri Lanka.
